Queen's Jubilee a Success Despite Economic Worry

Queen's Jubilee a Success Despite Economic Worry

Tuesday marked the final day of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebration signifying 60 years on the throne.

Three generations of royalty appeared for Tuesday's pomp and circumstance.

Queen Elizabeth II didn't appear to be showing signs of fatigue after four days of celebration. However, her husband, 90-year-old Prince Phillip, missed the last day of events because of a bladder infection.

In a televised address, the queen called the second jubilee "a humbling experience."

There were fears that the celebrations would be met with apathy as Britain faces economic problems. But thousands gathered to honor the queen.

"Our queen has shown that quality of joy in the happiness of others," Rowan Williams, archbishop of Canterbury, said.

Despite bad weather, more than a million people turned out for Sunday's river pageant. Hundreds of thousands also packed the mall outside Buckingham Palace Tuesday for a glimpse of the royal family.

"Many presidents and prime ministers have come and gone. Your majesty's reign has endured," President Barack Obama said.

The queen ended the festivities with a carriage procession back to Buckingham Palace. The Royal Air Force also gave red, white, and blue salute as they flew over Buckingham Palace.
