What is the Second Coming?
Many people do not even believe God exist let along a Second Coming of His Son. Please God help them! But why is it that His chosen people still wait for the Messiah to come and then there are so many like we Christians believe He has been here once and we are waiting on His Second Coming? Well I think I have an answer for my own question. You know a good lawyer never ask a question he does not already know. I have just heard that, I am not a lawyer. But here we go.
The prophets of old and visionaries always saw and prophesied in the distant future, hundreds if not thousands of years ahead. These people saw things as God saw or sees them. They were looking from His point of view. I believe God looks at things based on His overall plan and when He gave the prophets their visions, they were based on His plan from the beginning to end. If God's days are a 1000 years, and a 1000 years are a day to Him then what happens within that time frame is but a few days or years of our time, some of the particulars may not have been seen as readily as we see them. Jesus was only in this world for 33 years, a mere .033 of one day in the eyes of God the Father. As Isaiah said in 52:13-15 God's servant, "the Messiah" would come and be marred by man then raised and exalted. But the Jews could not believe that God's Messiah would be just a humble man. They were and are looking for a great leader, a leader of salvation, a kingly like person of great stature. Jesus just did not fit the bill of their vision other than God's. They refused to see "the truth" as they did in Jeremiah 28 when the people chose to listen to Hananiah, the false prophet, because he was telling them what they wanted to hear. Jeremiah was telling the people that what Hananiah was saying was not from God. When God spoke through the true prophets it came true which what Hananiah was saying did not and his just reward death.
The people never dreamed that God would come with the final covenant and lift the yoke of the law from them and give the opportunity of grace and mercy simply through faith in this "first coming" of the Messiah. This why, in my mind, that Jesus gave us His last and final commands of loving our neighbor as ourselves and then be disciples and go out to all nations, including the Jewish nation, spreading the Good News that there was really a first coming. Though they are correct in seeing that there will be a final coming, they need to recognize God in the Flesh, in the form of Jesus the Anointed Son did come first, shed His blood for our sins, the on the third day rose to fulfill His promise that we too can have eternal life, but only through having faith in Him.
