Nothing Magic About Mike

Nothing Magic About Mike

There is a wonderful opportunity this weekend and over the next few weeks for husbands to embrace their calling as defined by scripture. Many times, we go about our daily routines in work and at home often being passive about our involvement in our investment to our wives spiritual intake. And, in the name of giving our wives some time to themselves we overlook things we should vehemently oppose at any cost. I'm referring to the recent release of Magic Mike. The synopsis features a guy working odd jobs by day and transforming to a prolific dancer at a male revue at night. He takes a teenager under his wing to initiate into his lifestyle only to fall for the teen's sister. Um...what?!
Sadly, many men will sit quietly by on the sidelines as their wives line up 1st and goal with mostly nude men prancing around and showcasing their bodies that God intended for their wives in the context of marriage. Rather than confront their wives to protect them from this culturally acceptable malady (Ephesian 5:25-27), husbands will sit by and allow their wives to go freely without consideration of spiritual implications or concerns of something amiss in their proclaimed salvation (1 John 1:6).
Men, we must counsel and help our wives understand the implications such events as this can have. They span from the marriage bed to our children. I would argue that just as pornography has wrecked men's perception of their wives in bed, so will such movies as this do for women. And how about the kids? Moms, what kind of message are you sending to your daughters about what is acceptable to look for in a potential husband? Dads, what are telling your sons about what he should become to win the affections of a potential wife?
To be clear, basking in such filth as described in the MPAA rating description of, "pervasive sexual content, brief graphic nudity, language and some drug use" is utter darkness. A woman of God can not bask and soak in such darkness. To make that claim, John, the apostle of love, would consider you a liar:
If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (1 John 1:6, ESV)
