A Christian Journey Through The Lord of the Rings

A Christian Journey Through The Lord of the Rings

Choices are a part of life and how to spend our money is a choice we must make every day. There is a lot going on and we have to choose how to spend our time as well. Our entire lives are an extension of this thought for we have only one life to live and we must decide our priorities - where and how we will spend our energy.
Some books take us far away into purely exciting, entertaining environments where we experience the thrill of adventure without ever geting our hands dirty, so to speak. But in reality we are in the midst of the greatest adventure ever created. We are living lives that decide our soul's fate for eternity.....for ever and ever and ever and ever.
Some books lift us up into worlds which challenge us and make us think - What am I doing here? Why do I exist? Where am I going? Does my life matter? Where have the people who I have known, loved or hated, who have died, really gone? Frankly, if I am going to spend money - I like to get my money's worth. A book that reminds me of the eternal, the reality of the glory of creation and the nobilty of the human calling to God and God's calling to humanity strikes me as being worth a great deal.
The Lord of the Rings is a wonderful story that stirs the soul because it delves into the myteries of good and evil and the challenges of life here, and the life beyond our present vision, but it is only a story. In The Road Goes Ever On - A Christian Journey Through The Lord of the Rings the adventures of Frodo and Sam, Aragorn and Gandalf, Pippin and Merry and the others including the guys who didn't make such great decisions like Wormtongue, Golum and Saruman are explored in light of our real lives and the decisions we make every day.
Our souls are alive and they must be fed. The question for us is - what are we feeding our inner-selves? How are our days here on earth being spent? Are we building up treasure that does not perish? When we pack our bags for our next trip remember that there is a journey we will all be taking and it might be wise to pack very carefuly.
