Two becoming one is to be cherished.
AGROUP
OF PHARISEES came to Jesus with a difficult question concerning
divorce. “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every
reason?”(Matthew 19:3b). For his answer Jesus went back to the original purpose of marriage in Genesis 1:27 and 2:24, when God created man and woman in his own image and in marriage two become one flesh. Jesus then discourages divorce by saying, “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Matthew 19:6).
Again and again, Jesus does not focus on laws, but on where the heart is.
This is the goal in marriage: two become one. When the love of Christ and his Cross are at the center of a marriage relationship, this is the beginning of God’s vision of two becoming one—in him.
Likewise, the message for today is clear: Center your marriage on Christ, and pray always together. Marriage partners who pray together, stay together!

Questions: How is the marriage relationship similar to a relationship with God? When is it different?
