INDIAN RESCUE MISSION RESCUED A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL SOLD, TRAFFICKED AND FORCED INTO PROSTITUTION IN PUNE, MAHARASTRA STATE

PUNE, MAHARASTRA -Acting on an information given by Indian
Rescue Mission (IRM), a Christian social organization, police in the Indian
city of Pune on Tuesday, April 27,2010 raided the fourth floor of a brothel in
the city’s red light area and rescued a very young 13 year old girl Kavita
(name changed for security reasons) who had been sold, trafficked and forced
into prostitution.

Speaking to Assist News Service
about the recent rescue of the 13-year-old, Mr. James Varghese, Founder
president of IRM, said, IRM Investigation team were planning to rescue a 15 yr
old girl from a brothel at Pune red light area but during the course of time,
an IRM team member on investigations the previous night, found Kavita weeping
and broken down inside a brothel. The team member wanted to find out the
sadness that overwhelms her and hence he spoke to the girl to find out the
reason. She told him she is thinking of her young sister and she is desperate
to see her and be with her.

Then
Kavita told the team member her whole story that, she lost her father when she
was a child. And after few years, her mother got married to another person and
started to live separately with him. Then all of a sudden her mother left her
and her young sister at a relative’s house. Kavita was just 10 yrs old and her
sister 7 yrs, when her mother left both of them at the relative’s house. This
girl started to do some household jobs to take care of her and her young
sister.

When
Kavita was 13 yrs old, one day, she met a young person who in the pretext of
providing her some household Job brought her to Pune city and sold her to a
brothel keeper in the red light area. Kavita was cheated and was trapped inside
the brothel with none to help her. Kavita stayed in this brothel 3 months and
April 27,2010 was a fine day for her as IRM came for her rescue.

The girl is now placed in the
Government Protective Home in Pune. The lady brothel keeper is arrested in
connection with this case.

IRM was founded by Mr. James
Varghese (Correspondent in India for ASSIST News Service and The Cypress Times)
in the year 2009 to provide helping hand to the victims of forced prostitution
and child labor and rehabilitate them.
