Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage

Country star and singer Carrie Underwood recently spoke out in support of gay marriage, saying believers should be more loving and less judgmental on the issue.

Since winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood has had a string of hit songs, including her debut country single "Jesus Take the Wheel," which won a Grammy.

In an interview with The Independent U.K. newspaper, she said she believes in marriage equality.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love and want to marry," she said.

"I can't imagine how that must feel," Underwood added. "I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

The 29-year-old also said she attends a gay-friendly church.

"Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me,'" Underwood said.

"We have to love each other and get along with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody," she continued.

Underwood has drawn mixed reaction from the Christian community since making her comments.
