Why have you been quiet, dear donkey of Bethlehem, now 2000 years?
Donkey of Bethlehem: I am from nature give. Big words do not fit to me. In addition people from unsereins let themselves say anyhow nothing! There are at most blows. My colleague in the service of the prophet Bileam can also sing about it a ditty...
How was this exact when Jesus was born in the stable?
Unexpectedly suddenly crowded Josef and highly pregnant Maria to us in the stable. Of course we made immediately room. Nowhere, otherwise, they had finallyound a lodging. Yes, the clever people looked even then hardly after the emergency situations more different.
And then just the child came into the world, absolutely of course. The strenuous trip has probably accelerated the birth. No donkey would ever have the idea to undertake such strain in such a state! But with the people everything is different just... I have been glad of course tremendously about this child. The son of God with us in the stable! Anyhow I felt as a sort of godfather!
How has the Jesus' child reacted when it has perceived you?
Absolutely normally. As well as children just react to animals. They love us. And her presence also makes us joy. Children understand us just better than adults. However, it has already disturbed me then when a still whole horde there of shepherds came. I was simply pushed in the very back corner. As well as people handle just with animals. In addition they must push constantly themselves in the foreground...
What has particularly impressed you at this holy night?
Everything - the angel's song, the special star, the report of the shepherds, the talks of Maria and Josef, and above all the Jesus' child: The long desired rescuer was born! The wonderful song of the angels goes on sounding even today in my long ears. This was a music! I had never heard such a thing. I was so overpowered that the eyewash ran to me. And although I sing myself with pleasure - the people call it though croaking - I not even had the idea to join in the singing. Thus I have also not frightened the Jesus' child who lay with this heavenly music so happily in my crib.
Later you have fled with small Jesus and his parents to Egypt. How hard were the way and the load for you?
There I had to drag in my life quite other loads! Although I had to hurry up very much, I did not wilt. Nevertheless, I presented Maria and the Jesus' child together with the luggage on the back - an unbelievable tempo! Poor Josef had to do himself quite a lot ranhalten. To serve the Son of God, to be there for him, is not only for donkeys the nicest thing of the world!
What have you learnt from the Jesus' child for your life?
The great love to the people! To save them, Jesus came to this world. He served them with his whole strength. He healed. He preached. He supplied them with food. And then he still died for these difficult beings. His love is simply fantastic! Since I have met this Jesus, I can be more affectionate and more patient with the people also a little. So difficultly these people often are also, one must love them. This is probably the only way to change them. I have learnt this from Jesus.
Which word of Jesus has stamped you?
"Graui", he has shouted in each case. Jesus has appealed to me affectionately with my name! I do not make no difference to him. This is good!
Excuse me, however, it is not lighter for a silly donkey to believe in Jesus than the son of God?
What is called here stupidly? Maybe we are pretended donkey less or are emancipated. We know just that we come alone badly through the life. And, nevertheless, there it is a complete piece of luck to get to know the wonderful Son of God personally! I am grateful, in any case to have good man who loves me and provides for me. Who is silly then in your eyes?
It is silly who knocks out dear Jesus who does not know where he really belongs. Therefore, people probably bend rather to the stupidity than us donkeys... But you must not necessarily write this. Otherwise the people become again roughly me. They do not hear the truth because with pleasure!
Could modern people think quite light if they had experienced Jesus as a person like you?
I do not believe this. Many people stand in the way. To admit that they need a saviour, is difficult for them. They are proud and pretended. Therefore, also mean most, they would need no assistant. I am glad that I stand with four legs on the ground and must not hold the head so far in the air. This leads to a healthy self-assessment.
Later, with the move in Jerusalem, Jesus has ridden even on you. What has strongly impressed you in the life of Jesus?
Jesus did not have only a social vein. He did not limit himself to a few good actions. He has been same. Totally. And even at the worst hour, with cruel pains on the cross, he still prayed for his enemies. This was pure love!
What do you think as a donkey ancient in the meantime about the people from today?
They do not develop to the better! With her today's music I have my trouble. Luckily I am almost deaf! The nervous thing with her mobile phones is almost intolerable for unsereins. More badly, however, it is that there is still injustice, hatred and war. The people from today need the saviour Jesus Christ as urgently as former generations!
What do you say if modern people call the Christmas history legend?
Donkeys do not need to comment on all stupidities! Indeed, I am already astonished at the ability of people, things which they do not want to admit to say no so long until they think it still same...
What is important to you today in Christmas?
The fact that Christ, the rescuer, is born. The fact that he loves me. And the fact that I may live with him and serve him. Of course I avoid the whole Christmas bustle. To department stores I have luckily anyway no admission. In Christmas I am whole with pleasure in the stable! There I have my rest and can think undisturbed of this what has happened at that time. And then the old hay smells exactly like at that time in Bethlehem... Then quite warmly it becomes to me around the heart!
What would like you to say especially the children at Christmas?
Today children simply do not have it. In Christmas they are covered with presents. Then the adults believe that this love is... We donkey are not spoilt so. We also eat in Christmas hay! I wish the children that they do not forget the essentials in spite of all presents, namely that what has happened in Christmas also for them. Dear children, maybe you slip away once briefly! Goes to a stable, completely all alone. And thinks about it. The presents do not run away to you!
Yours quite personal wish at Christmas?
I wish that I can still be long to my man to services. And the fact that even more people find in my surroundings also to this good man. As an old donkey I wished more peace, understanding and love just also among the people in my old native country Palestine!
