World champion boxer Manny Pacquiao says he loves homosexuals, even though he does not support gay marriage.
Pacquiao, who is also a congressman in the Philippines and an outspoken Christian, recently criticized President Obama's open support for gay marriage.
He came under fire when a reporter from The Examiner quoted the boxer's remarks and added a verse from the book of Leviticus that says gays should be killed.
The reporter later admitted Pacquiao did not quote the Old Testament verse and that he added it on his own.
"What I said is a reporter asked me about gay marriage ... 'I am against gay marriage, but I'm not condemning gays,'" the boxer told The Los Angeles Times in an interview.
"He said, 'Why?' I said, 'It's the law of God.' That's all I said," he continued.
"I have family - a cousin - who's gay, and friends, too. I'm just against gay marriage," he said. "I don't even want to talk about the issue, but I was asked about it, so I gave my opinion."
Pacquaio said his favorites Bible verses are, 'Love one another' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Weltmeister-Boxer Mann Pacquiao sagt, dass er Homosexuelle liebt, wenn auch er homosexuelle Ehe nicht unterstützt.
Pacquiao, wer auch ein Kongressabgeordneter in den Philippinen und ein freimütiger Christ ist, kritisierte kürzlich die offene Unterstützung von Präsidenten Obama für die homosexuelle Ehe.
Er geriet unter Beschuss, als ein Reporter vom Prüfer die Bemerkungen des Boxers ansetzte und einen Vers aus dem Buch von Leviticus hinzufügte, der sagt, dass Homosexuelle getötet werden sollten.
Der Reporter gab später zu, dass Pacquiao der Vers von Alt Testament nicht ansetzte, und dass er es selbstständig hinzufügte.
"Was ich sagte, ist ein Reporter fragte mich nach der homosexuellen Ehe... 'Ich bin gegen die homosexuelle Ehe, aber ich verurteile Homosexuelle nicht,'" erzählte der Boxer The Los Angeles Times in einem Interview.
"Er, sagte 'Warum?' Ich sagte, 'Es das Gesetz des Gottes ist.' Es ist alles, was ich sagte," setzte er fort.
"Ich habe Familie - einen Vetter - wer, und Freunde auch homosexuell ist. Ich bin gerade gegen die homosexuelle Ehe," sagte er. "Ich will nicht sogar über das Problem sprechen, aber ich wurde danach gefragt, so gab ich meine Meinung."
Pasqualino sagte, dass seine Lieblingsbibelsprüche sind, 'Einander lieben Sie' und 'Ihren Nachbar als sich selbst lieben.'
